Table 165 is now Alma, with Chef Coton Stine in the kitchen
One bidder left for the tennis courts, a new roof that raised an insurance bill and a farm festival in Boynton.
If Table 165 was your downtown spot, the address still works. The restaurant at 165 NE 2nd Ave. now goes by Alma, and it marked its grand opening with an Oct. 5 ribbon-cutting whose invitation asked guests to "reunite with our team" and see the room's new look.
The menu is inventive American cooking that draws on global flavors and ingredients from sought-after sources, and the room has been redone since its Table 165 days. Chef Coton Stine runs the kitchen, and Alma calls itself an intimate, chef-driven dining experience. Reservations are at (561) 266-3629, and the address is unchanged: 165 NE 2nd Ave.
A Delray homeowner says her new My Safe Florida Home roof raised her insurance $300 a year
Betty Haygood got a new roof in August with help from My Safe Florida Home, the state program. Her homeowners renewal, due in December, now comes in $300 a year higher, she says. Universal, her insurer, offered an explanation. Because of its age, the old roof was insured at only 25% of its value, the company said. The new roof carries more complete coverage, and that is what raised the price. Hers is one policy with one insurer, not evidence of a wider pattern. Still, it shows a new roof can change what a policy covers, not just what it costs. Insurance experts and state leaders, for their part, describe a Florida market on the mend, with new companies arriving and more competition putting pressure on rates.
Maman, the New York French café, is due in Sundy Village in November
Maman, the French café and bakery that started in New York City and now has more than 60 locations in North America, has picked Sundy Village in downtown Delray for its next Palm Beach County café, slated for November. Its West Boca café at Shadowood Square was set to debut Oct. 6, with Delray next in line and another location at The Shops at Boca Center planned for early 2027. It first came to Palm Beach County with a West Palm Beach café in 2024. Expect its espresso and tea, house-made pastries and savory dishes for dine-in or takeaway, plus pickup and delivery through the Maman app. November is a target, not a set date.
Commission approves new tennis center management contract worth up to $999,600
An outside manager will run the Delray Swim & Tennis Club as well as the Delray Beach Tennis Center after the Commission passed Resolution No. 107-26 on Oct. 13. The contract goes to JCD Sports Group, the trade name of Dubin & Associates, for turnkey management of both sites. It covers an initial five-year term for $490,000, with up to five one-year renewals at $101,920 per year, for a total value of $999,600 if every renewal is used. The choice came down to one company. On Oct. 2, the City Manager's office threw out bids from FM Tennis and Baral Group, ruling both not responsive and not responsible under the city's solicitation. That made JCD the only proposer eligible to reach the Commission. With the other bids ruled out, the Commission had no competing offer to weigh. Staff asked for a quick vote so the deal could be finished in time for the season.
