Taylor Fritz commits to the 35th Delray Beach Open, Feb. 12-21, 2027
Also: FBI activity in Seven Bridges, Delray firefighters on a HazMat team bound for Northwest Florida, and a $35-per-ticket dinner for foster children.
Andy Roddick takes his place on the Delray Beach Open's Walk of Fame on the night of Feb. 12, right after his Legends match. That is four months off, and tickets for the week are already on sale.
Only one player before Taylor Fritz had ever successfully defended a Delray Beach Open title: Jason Stoltenberg, in 1996-97. Fritz matched him by winning in 2023 and 2024, and he took the 2024 trophy without dropping a set. One more title would make him the tournament's first three-time champion. February will be his ninth appearance here.
"Delray is always a special week for me," Fritz said. He is world No. 12, and his 2026 season has brought four finals, an 11th career title in Washington in August and a Wimbledon quarterfinal run.
The 2027 tournament opens with a Legends Event, Feb. 12-14, that features Tommy Haas, Andy Roddick, Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, and Murphy and Luke Jensen, among others. Roddick joins the Walk of Fame on the night of Feb. 12, 2027, after his Legends match.

Delray Parks and Recreation wins five international Pinnacle Awards
A single-page flyer for the 4th of July Celebration and a poster for the Murder Mystery Dinner each won gold for Delray's Parks and Recreation Department. The International Festivals & Events Association announced the results Oct. 5 at its 71st convention in Tucson. Silvers went to printed pieces for the Veterans Day Ceremony and to billboards and signs for the Fourth, and the event guide for the 100 Ft. Christmas Tree took bronze. Awards spanned 67 categories, from marketing to emergency preparedness. "Community events are an essential part of what makes Delray Beach such a special place to live, work, and visit," City Manager Terrence Moore said, crediting the department's team.
Delray Beach Fire Rescue members join HazMat strike team sent to Northwest Florida
Hurricanes can leave chemical releases, gas leaks and fuel spills behind, and a regional hazardous materials team hit the road less than a day after getting its orders to handle that work in Northwest Florida, where Hurricane Isaias struck. Delray Beach Fire Rescue is one of three agencies on the Type 1 team, along with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and the West Palm Beach Fire Department. The team left county fire rescue headquarters on the morning of Oct. 10 for Tallahassee, where it was to receive a Panhandle assignment. Its job is to keep hazardous materials contained and protect both residents and responders, which frees other crews to answer urgent calls.
FBI and sheriff's deputies stage operations in Seven Bridges
At one spot in Seven Bridges on Oct. 14, agents appeared ready to move in, then are believed to have left without taking any action. FBI agents and Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies gathered at at least two locations in the West Delray community late that morning, and the FBI is believed to have run more than one operation. Whether the scenes were connected is unclear. So is whether anyone was arrested or any warrant was served. The FBI did not immediately answer questions. The Bureau typically calls such work "court approved" law enforcement action.
