School-zone cameras have issued nearly 5,000 tickets. Here's when they're on

Plus a free police night out Wednesday, restaurant offers into October and a printmaker retrospective at the Cornell.

Lead story

Delray's new school-zone speed cameras issued nearly 5,000 tickets at $100 each during roughly their first six weeks of enforcement, police told WPTV. At Banyan Creek Elementary, the flashing beacons and camera enforcement hours did not match. Some drivers were cited when the lights were not flashing. Palm Beach County has reset the beacons, and police say notices issued in error have been dismissed.

Banyan Creek's enforcement windows are 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 1:35-2:35 p.m. Pine Grove uses those same hours; the other schools have different schedules, including a separate Friday afternoon window at Daughters of Zion. Posted signs list each zone's hours, and the linked report has the full eight-school schedule. Outside those times, the regular posted speed limit applies. The City Commission is scheduled to receive another program update in December.

Downtown Restaurant Month deals continue into October

Downtown restaurants are extending their Restaurant Month offers into October, according to the Downtown Development Authority. Campi Italian has a $49 prix fixe with a $20 wine pairing; Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse has a $65 prix fixe; Big Al's has a $50 cheesesteak meal for two; and Jimmy's Bistro takes 15% off the check Monday through Thursday.

Check the deadline for the restaurant you choose: the DDA lists Amar Sandwich Shop's $17 sandwich combo and Amar Mediterranean Kitchen & Bar's $45 prix fixe through Oct. 15. The Restaurant Month mobile pass ended with September, so October deals are redeemed directly at the participating restaurants. The DDA page lists the offers and links to each participant.
