Delray selects an independent cemetery consultant
Free yoga and a Rodney Demps conversation Sunday, plus three weekend performances of 42nd Street.
Families seeking answers about Delray’s cemetery now have a named consultant and a promised opportunity to contribute to the review.
Delray Beach selected Kuehne Cemetery Consulting for an independent review of its municipal cemetery, the city announced September 4.
The assessment will examine burial records, grounds maintenance, customer service, fees, operating costs and capacity. The city expects the work to take less than two months and plans a community-input meeting.
Families have complained about neglected grounds and burial plots they say were sold again after they had purchased them. Residents have also sought a citizens’ advisory committee to work with the consultant; City Manager Terrence Moore has said that will happen. Their concerns extend to the condition of gravestones and the need for an on-site caretaker.
Kuehne is to deliver findings and recommendations ranked by urgency, identifying expected costs, implementation challenges and measurable results. The review will also compare Delray’s operations with other municipal and public cemeteries.
Statewide recognition for Captain Joseph Falcone
Delray Beach Fire Rescue Captain Joseph Falcone has been selected for the 2026 Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association Safety and Health Award of Excellence.
The recognition covers nearly 25 years of work on firefighter cancer prevention, reducing workplace exposures, physical readiness, behavioral health and peer support. His efforts include education, coaching and developing resources that encourage firefighters to seek assistance.
The award will be formally presented October 19 during the association’s Safety and Health Conference opening ceremonies in Orlando.

The musical follows Peggy Sawyer, an aspiring chorus performer who arrives from Allentown, Pennsylvania, and lands a Broadway ensemble job. When the leading lady is injured before opening night, Peggy gets her opportunity to step forward.

Coco Market takes over the Old School Square Amphitheatre September 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, and children and adults of all ages are welcome.
The program includes yoga, meditation, sound baths, a drum circle and crafts. Vendors offer clothing, jewelry and food, including vegan and non-vegan options. No purchase or previous wellness experience is required to attend.

Collectors and gallerists will discuss Rodney Demps’ work at Cornell Art Museum September 6. The afternoon begins with a 2 p.m. meet-and-greet; the art talk starts at 2:30, and the event runs until 4.
Participants are collector James Knill, Amanda Johnson of Amanda James Gallery, Mark Lerner of The Highwaymen Collector, and Vero Beach collector and gallerist Ralph Oko. They will share their experiences collecting, exhibiting and appreciating Demps’ work.
