City starts writing e-bike rules

Two city stories to watch, plus Juneteenth and a few good weekend plans.

Lead story

City starts writing e-bike rules

After residents and officials flagged dangerous riding on streets and sidewalks, Delray leaders are drafting e-bike regulations. Commissioner Juli Casale has asked staff to weigh speed limits, helmet and ID requirements for riders under 16, and real enforcement tools for police. Nothing's final yet, but it's the clearest sign so far that the free-for-all on two wheels is getting attention.

Delray sues Highland Beach over fire-rescue bills

Delray Beach has filed suit against neighboring Highland Beach over a long-running fire-rescue agreement, alleging unpaid costs for fire suppression, ALS transport, hazmat response, dive-rescue work, and inspections. One report puts the claim near $4 million; for now, treat that as an allegation in a court filing, not a settled number.

Juneteenth takes over Old School Square

Saturday's celebration starts at 10 a.m., opening with a Think Tank Workshop and Forum at the Vintage Gym before the day moves outdoors to the Amphitheater for Jazz in the Park — live music, a DJ, food vendors, and community booths. Come for the morning conversation, the music, or both. Keep an eye on the sky, since an afternoon storm is in the forecast.

Guy Davis brings the blues to Arts Garage

Bluesman Guy Davis plays Arts Garage this evening, the kind of small room where the guitar work actually carries.

Two tribute shows at the Playhouse

The Delray Beach Playhouse has a doubleheader this weekend: Flower Power Revival tonight from 8 to 10, then the Seger Experience on Saturday at 4. Flower Power tickets start at $59.

Around town

Free summer lunches for kids at the library

The Delray Beach Public Library is serving free lunch and snacks to anyone 18 and under on weekdays through July 24 — lunch from 11:30 to 12:30, snacks from 2 to 4 — through a partnership with the county school district. No catch, just show up.

Things to do

Two free nights to keep on next week's list

Old School Square has two easy ones coming up: Ratatouille screens for free at the Amphitheater on Thursday, then Life in Technicolor brings a free Coldplay tribute on Friday, with gates at 5 and music at 6.
