George Bush Boulevard bridge closes June 1 for seven weeks
The Intracoastal crossing shuts to vehicles and pedestrians through July 20.
The George Bush Boulevard Bascule Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway will close to vehicles and pedestrians from Monday, June 1 through Monday, July 20 for essential bridge deck repairs. That takes a key beachside crossing offline for about seven weeks, including the first Monday commute of June, so anyone who normally uses George Bush Boulevard should plan an alternate route now. Build extra time in both directions, especially during morning and evening peaks and on weekends when downtown and beach traffic stack up. Full closure details are in the announcement from BocaPost Delray headlines.
Free Parking Wednesdays start downtown June 3
City-owned lots are free all day and all night, every Wednesday through August 26.
Delray Beach is launching Free Parking Wednesdays downtown for the summer. From Wednesday, June 3 through Wednesday, August 26, parking at city-owned downtown facilities will be free all day and all night, with no meter to feed. The program only covers city-owned facilities, so privately operated lots and garages still set their own prices. Full details are in the notice from the City of Delray Beach city news page.
Coco Market fined $15,000 over Old School Square dog bite
City manager also suspended the organizer's permit for three months.
Delray Beach has fined Coco Market $15,000 over a Feb. 8 dog attack at Old School Square that injured a 16-year-old, who suffered a severe laceration to the upper lip and cheek and faces possible permanent scarring. City Manager Terrence Moore suspended organizer Cocoyogi Inc.'s special events permit for three months. The dog was being displayed by Rodney Mayo's H3 Dog Rescue, and Coco Market did not have city permission to host an organization with animals at the event. Organizers may resume events in June, but the city warned that further violations could risk a permanent ban from city property. Details are at The Coastal Star.

Live music, mural artists, and dining in the street along Atlantic Avenue.
Art & Jazz on the Avenue returns Wednesday, May 27, bringing live music, mural artists, kids activities, and restaurants serving dining in the street. It is free to attend, but worth planning around even if you are not going: the event changes traffic and the feel of the beachside stretch through the evening. Golf cart incidents are rising; here's what's required to drive one
License plate, insurance, learner's permit, seat belts, lights, and a 35 mph limit.
WPTV reports golf cart incidents are rising in Delray Beach as street use increases, and the station laid out what's actually required to operate one legally on city streets. Golf carts need a license plate and insurance. The operator must hold at least a learner's permit. The cart itself must have seat belts, headlights, brake lights, and mirrors. And carts may only be driven on streets with speed limits of 35 mph or less, which rules out most of the larger arterial roads through town. If you use a cart downtown or in your neighborhood, run through that checklist before the next trip. Details are at WPTV Delray Beach headlines.
